A fragrant bitter-almond syrup that is very popular in Italy and France. A traditional addition to cocktails (a key ingredient in Mai Tais) or simply mix 1 part orzata syrup with six parts of still or sparkling water for a refreshing drink. Orzata syrup is also great as a flavouring for coffee and smoothies.The literal translation of orzata into English is "barley water" but it is not made from barley but from benzoin, a natural resin of a tree from Styrax family which has been famous since antiquity for its fragrance.
