San Felice Campogiovanni Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016

$159.99

Description Brunello di Montalcino is the youngest of Italy's most prestigious red wines and is made from an isolated clone of Sangiovese called Sangiovese Grosso. The area of Montalcino is the most arid of all the Tuscan DOCG zones. Campogiovanni is the name of this particular site.
Rich, deep ruby hue. Ripe red berry fruits imbued with leather, cigar box, rosemary and thyme. Red cherry liqueur, liquorice, winter herbs and spices fill the entire palate.
Harvest First and second week of October.
Vinification Twenty-day maceration at 28-30°C and malolactic fermentation in steel. Maturation for 36 months in large Slavonian oak botti, followed by a further 12 months in the bottle.
Total ageing necessary for a Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is 48 months, with a minimum period of two years in oak and four months in bottle (six months for a Riserva). It is without question, the most prestigious of Tuscany’s noble wines.
Food Matching Wonderful with roasts, game, and pecorino cheeses.

Vaierty 100% Sangiovese Grosso.
Awards 92 POINTS, Ian D’Agata, Vinous – February 2018. Good full ruby-red. Ripe red cherry, leather, faded flowers, sandalwood and menthol on the nose. Nicely sweet and smooth on the palate, offering supple, ripe red berry flavors complicated by mocha and coffee. Not especially complex, but creamy, showing the suave side of Sangiovese from the warmer reaches of the Montalcino southwestern subzones of Sant’Angelo Scalo and Sant’Angelo in Colle. This strapping, large-framed Brunello finishes with polished tannins and persistent sweetness.
